todays lesson began with a still life - draw what you see - paying attention to the negative spaces and the composition. it seems i find it hard to draw small enough to get it all on the paper.
we then did a few quick 2 minute drawings.
and then we began the subject of light and shade. first having to draw only the shaded areas using charcoal...
..then drawing only the light with chalk. i found this quite tricky both concentrating on an accurate drawing and only shading a certain area.
For me, I think I find it harder to fill the page :) Loving the idea of drawing only the shaded then the light areas (charcoal and chalk is so lovely).
i remember working on these exercises on my foundation course...so enjoyable and it's really liberating to not be drawing just to create a finished piece! my favourite is actually the contour one...don't lift your pencil from the paper! you did so much in one class! and i can tell that you're loving it...it's wonderful! xxx

I love the chalk piece. Looks like you are having a great time, Julie!
What a joy! Great to see the different variations. I love the structure in the "light and shadow" piece. You get me wanting to try this again!!
